First Aid Kit+ty: Wounds?! No problem...Let's fix it up
English version:
Wound?! No problem...Let's fix it up
Hi KoolKatz, pawfriend here. I want to share with you guys a story, my little fluff ball, muffin, is an alpha cat. Thus, she is very territorial of her place. Thus, during this pass few weeks, she's been a bit of a handful as we were bringing her from Serdang to Melaka...and well, new place, new territory to take care. Thus, the endless fights and bruises.
Luckily, she got her family with her and we treated her wounds with ease.
So, for today's Blog segment, I'm going to share with you guys about wounds and wound treatments in Animals.
First of all, we need to break it down to the definition of wound. Wounds are basically a damage area on the body like cuts on skins or holes on flesh.
Before wounds are treated, identification of wound type must be done. There are 4 stages of wound type;
Stage 1: Common colour changes on skin epidermis (top layer of skin). Examples are bruises.
Stage 2: involves loss epidermis and dermis level of skin. Examples are abrasion injuries like blisters.
Stage 3: Wound that extend to subcutaneous level. Some in wound injuries may present of necrosis tissue (aka dead tissue)
Stage 4: wound with loss excessive tissue damage and in some cases, expose bone and muscles. This needs serious wound treatment.
My muffin falls in the category of stage 3 as it by pass you could see tissue there...haha...
So, I'll explain to you treatment for the 3rd stage wounds:
step by step with pawfriend:
1) Identify the cat's conditions
See whether the cat is stable and the wounds conditions whether it's life threatening or not. If it is bleeding, control the bleeding by applying direct pressure lightly.
2) Wound preparations
In this step, irrigation (aka cleaning and disinfecting) is done. Clean water and antiseptic like iodine are used. This ensure no infection to happen as it is to avoid any microorganisms from infecting the wound. Used iodine with label 'povidone' and not 'tinture' to open wounds unless it's stage 1 wounds. Cleaning the wound area to get better access of wound treatment by removing the necrotic tissue and some hair in the area can be done...But be careful not to cut the cat's live tissue...Yikes that might hurt. Normally, practice vet and students (including my Diploma course) in this animal veterinary fields and their assistance would do this.
3)Deciding primary or secondary wounds
There are two types of closure which are primary and secondary closure wounds:
-Primary closure wounds: They involves using sutera, stapler or cyanoacrylate to close wounds. This is usually used for wound deep of more than 2 inch.... and wounds like this are usually cause by surgery or tear in stage 4 and sometimes stage 3 wounds. The wounds must be covered around 24 to 72 hours to ensure the healing is not dely and minimal contamination.
- Secondary closure wounds: They involves wounds more than 5 days (Old wounds). This is due to the healing of wound has start up as granulation of tissue forms. Thus, it is best to let the wound open and manage the wound by disinfecting it to help the healing process.
Muffin treatment was on the secondary closure and it takes up to 1 week more of less
So, that pretty much sums it up...Hope you enjoyed this segment and see you next time KoolKatz.

Luka?!
Langkah-Langkan merawat bersama pawfriend:
1)Lihat kondisi kucing
Terdapat dua cara menutup luka iaitu penutupan luka utama Dan penutupan luka kedua:
